ITX client SSRN gets mention in New York Times
Pittsford, NY – June 11th, 2008 – ITX client Social Sciences Research Network got a big nod from the New York Times on June 9, 2008. Staff writer Noam Cohen did a feature article titled “Now Professors Get Their Star Rankings, Too” outlining how SSRN is changing the way the academic community is published and read.
As Cohen mentions, SSRN's papers and articles can be viewed in terms of most downloads, creating a new kind of competition among academics who publish on a regular basis. In the past, only the most prestigious authors were able to get work read. Now, with the onset of the age of the Internet, almost anyone can move to the top of the list.
The SSRN site was build and is maintained by ITX, a web technology firm based in Pittsford, NY. “SSRN outsources most of its IT development, maintenance, and web hosting because it is the most effective solution for our growing company.” says Gregg Gordon, President of SSRN. Built from the ground up, the ITX team analyzed the SSRN business model and developed a unique set of custom applications that would streamline their Web delivery system. ITX worked with SSRN to design and develop a workflow application and website that would allow visitors instant access to publications.
The site continues to win awards and has realized a 50% increase in readership and papers published over the past year.
